Our Promise

Committed to transparency and ending modern slavery by 2026.

1. Introduction and Strategy

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 for the financial year ending 2026. East Midlands Property Maintenance LTD maintains a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. In line with updated UK Government guidance, we have moved beyond basic policy statements to an active risk-management model, focusing on transparency and worker-centred remediation.

2. Organisational Structure and High-Risk Areas

We are a property maintenance company based in the East Midlands. While our direct workforce is UK-based, we recognize that risk exists within our multi-tiered supply chain.

  • Direct Operations: Low risk. 100% of staff are subject to UK Right to Work checks.

  • Supply Chain (Tier 1): Medium risk. Includes UK-based subcontractors and material wholesalers.

  • Supply Chain (Tier 2+): High risk. We identify specific risks in the production of raw materials (timber, slate, and electronics) and the manufacturing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sourced globally.

3. Active Policies (Level 1 Disclosure)

We operate the following updated policies to ensure ethical conduct:

  • Worker-Centred Recruitment: We prohibit the charging of recruitment fees to workers. All staff retain their own identity documents and have full freedom of movement.

  • Whistleblowing Protection: Our policy explicitly protects those reporting modern slavery. In 2026, we have introduced an anonymous reporting line accessible to all contractors and sub-contractors.

  • Supplier Code of Conduct: All new suppliers must sign our "Anti-Slavery Charter," which mandates transparency regarding their own labour providers.

4. Due Diligence and Risk Mitigation (Level 2 Disclosure)
To move beyond "paper compliance," we have implemented the following:

  • Supplier Auditing: We conduct spot-checks on high-risk subcontractors (e.g., waste removal and cleaning services) to ensure they are not using "grey market" labour.

  • Contractual Protections: All contracts now include a "Right to Audit" clause and a requirement for suppliers to notify us immediately of any modern slavery "incidents" or "near-misses."

  • Remediation Strategy: If slavery is discovered, our primary goal is the safety of the victim. We commit to working with the GLAA (Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority) rather than simply terminating a contract, which could further endanger vulnerable workers.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for 2026

We measure our effectiveness through the following targets:

  • Training: 100% of management and procurement staff to complete "Advanced Modern Slavery Detection" training by Q3 2026.

  • Visibility: Mapping 80% of our Tier 2 supply chain for high-spend material categories.

  • Reporting: Submit this statement to the UK Government Modern Slavery Statement Registry by the 30th September deadline.

6. Board Approval

This statement has been reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors of East Midlands Property Maintenance LTD.
